Cozy Stripes

Recently, Simon got some new fall/winter clothes. When I dress him on chilly mornings, I find myself jealous of his selection of baggy, cozy sweatshirts. I kept wishing they were in my size so I could borrow them. Is it wrong to borrow clothes from your child? I think it is supposed to go the other way around. (In middle school I lived in my Dad’s big, baggy flannels, which I wore with my intentionally ripped up jeans.) Thank goodness Simon wears a 3T, so I don;t have to wrestle with that temptation.

Anyway, when I was at Target the other day I spotted this cozy striped top, and I intentionally bought it in a too-big size. I have been living in it ever since. It is so comforting to be completely enveloped in a warm, loose sweatshirt. I am addicted and may be reverting back to my middle-school baggy clothes ways.

Autumn Casual

I love my skinny jeans, but once in a while it is nice to take a break from them. I recently dusted off this old pair, which is so old that the brand has long worn off of the waistband inside, so I can’t even tell you where they came from. They are well-broken in and comfortable though.

I recently bought this fun sweater at TJ Maxx. The price was right, and I love the mix of polka dots with stripes, navy with yellow. It seems that I have been drawn to yellow lately, since my last two top purchases have both featured the color. I think it is the influence of Fall Trees and their bright leaves.

I am loving the Autumn weather so far. It is cool in the morning, but most days the sun has been out, making it warm enough to go without a jacket. I know this won’t last long so I am soaking it up while I can.

Mother and Son Style: Fall Plaid

Long time no post! If you also follow my life blog, you know that we bought a house and moved. Life has been crazy for a little while, but I hope to be here again more frequently.

Fall is in full swing now, and this weekend, Jeramy and I are going away for the weekend to Oktoberfest. Since New England Autumns are fairly unpredictable weather-wise, layering is going to be absolutely necessary. I bought this yellow plaid flannel shirt this week specifically planning to pack it for my trip into the New Hampshire mountains.

Simon acquired his plaid shirt as a gift from his Nana, and we just happened to be both wearing them on the same day when this photo was taken. With his reds and my yellow, we were definitely Autumn appropriate.

It is too bad I didn’t save all of my oversize, plaid, flannel tops from the 90’s!

Double Plaid

I recently wore my thrifted plaid tunic in two different casual ensembles:

casual plaid 3casual plaid 4Outfit Notes: Plaid tunic-Thrifted // Denim Skirt-Target, old // Leggings-Target // Shoes-Minnetonka, from TJ Maxx // Bag-Mexicali Blues

The first outfit was for a weekend day, and the second one was actually worn to work at the library. I love this tunic because it is super comfortable. I sometimes worry that it looks a bit like a maternity shirt, because it is so loose and flowy in the waist, but that same “flowy-ness” is also why I like it.

Even though the tunic is plaid, it is black and white so it acts like a neutral to my outfits. I like to add a pop of color with it, as I did with the shoes and necklace here.

See other ways I have remixed this tunic here and here.

Playground Chic

Being a mostly stay-at-home Mom means my casual clothes usually get more wear than my dressier stuff. I find myself always looking for fun and still stylish ways to remix my wardrobe, even when I am going to the playground. I saw this outfit on Anthroplogie’s website and decided to re-create it:

7cfb1426df9be30e1487936148ad4968Now, my cargos are not skinnies, so there was a lot more bunching when I rolled them, and I wore a sequined top instead of one more bohemian. however, I liked the mix of utilitarian and pretty here. I also forgot to add a bold necklace for a pop of contrast on top, but since I was climbing monkey bars and going down slides it might have just gotten in the way anyway.

Casual Green

I think I have mentioned many times on this blog before that green is my favorite color. I arrange the clothes in my closet to hang by color, and the section of green is by far the largest section. Green just makes me happy.

This weekend, Jeramy, Simon and I went to a little beach at a local pond to spend some time. It was a perfect Spring day of sunshine with a cool breeze. Warm enough for sandals, but still windy enough for a light cardigan. With my sand colored tank top, sky blue jeans, and green sweater and accessories, I definitely dressed to match our surroundings.

How is the weather where you are?

Here I am, on a casual Wednesday. The weather cannot decide what it wants to do. It is sunny one minute, dark, cloudy, and wanting to rain the next. I spent the morning and afternoon tidying up after my toddler, getting an adjustment at the chiropractor, and reading parenting articles.

I almost didn’t bother to post today, fearing this outfit to be too boring and plain. But, I prefer the style blogs that show everyday outfits–stuff I can imagine myself wearing, and that seem doable for every budget. Real-life style. Clothes you can play with play-dough in. 🙂

When I wear simple, casual clothes like this, I always feel like I need at least one little pop of personality. A chunky necklace, some crazy earrings, fun shoes. Just something to spice it up a bit. Today I added my orange stone necklace to this peachy colored shirt. This creates a focal point to the outfit because the two colors are similar, and makes it more fun. I am also wearing an orangey-colored lip gloss that matches the shirt almost perfectly.

I suppose if the weather won’t stay bright, at least my outfit can. 🙂

Casual Brights

I’m not really a neon person, even though it is a big trend right now; but this bright, happy, candy-colored sweater caught my eye on the clearance rack the other day. Even though it is a sweater, I can see it being paired with jeans, skirts, and even shorts all through the Maine Spring and Summer. (It gets cool here at night!)

I’m also so excited about my new Minnetonkas. I found them at quite a marked down price, and in aqua, which is one of my favorite colors. They just might be the most comfortable shoes ever! While I was asking myself whether or not I should really buy them, even if they were marked down, I remembered this post over at Feathers and Freckles about three different ways she styled her Minnetonkas. Versatile shoes that can be worn with anything–from casual to dressed up, from jeans to dresses–are exactly right for someone like me.

In case you are wondering, I am at my husband’s Grandmother’s house in the above pictures. I have always loved that floral chaise lounge! Her nice, BIG, kitty is named Fritz and he is quite happy to bask in the sunlight there.

Technical Difficulties

I took a bunch more photos of this outfit today, including a few with a blazer, but my camera and tripod were not cooperating with me. I suppose that is bound to happen once in a while when you take your own pics.

Here I am again in my “Mumma Uniform“. My standard weekday wear when I am home with my little guy.  Very casual, but (I hope) still stylish.

Not Quite Spring Flowers

floral necklace closeuppurple sweater on grey outift 1flower necklace closeup 2(Outift Notes: Necklace-a gift // Sweater-Thrifted // Long-sleeved tee-Maurice’s clearance rack // Cords- Kohl’s last year // Booties-TJ Maxx)

This was my casual and comfy, yet Library appropriate, work outfit from yesterday. I almost changed about ten times, because everything I was wearing was so grey, but comfort won out. Plus, I felt like the necklace was the real star of my ensemble anyway, and it stood out nicely. It was a Christmas present from my Mother-in-law, and it matches this recently thrifted  purple-flecked sweater very well.

Today  we are having yet another snowstorm, despite the fact that tomorrow is the first official day of Spring. Apparently, if I want to see flowers, I will have to wear them in the form of clothing and accessories for now.
